Is Bluemaxx / IPSTAR a 1-way or 2-way satellite service?
Bluemaxx uses IPSTAR satellite technology. This is one of the most advanced satellite technologies in the world. The service is a full 2-way satellite service, so data is sent and received via the satellite dish. It is independant of the telephone lines, so you do not require a telephone line to have the service connected.
Does the satellite require a telephone line?
No, the Bluemaxx satellite system does not require a telephone line. It is a two way satellite therefore independant of the telephone lines.
What speeds can satellite technology offer me?
Bluemaxx being powered by IPSTAR, can currently offer you speeds up to 4mbps per second download and 2mbps upload.
Does Bluemaxx charge for extra download?
Bluemaxx does not automatically charge for extra downloads, your speed is simly reduced after your download limit is reached in a process called shaping. You may however choose to purchase additional downloads at any time if you require full plan speed after shaping.
What speed is my connection shaped to after the download limit is reached?
Bluemaxx satellite plans are shaped to 64/64kbps after the download limit is reached (unless otherwise specified).
Who does Bluemaxx use as a carrier for their satellite service?
As Bluemaxx is powered by IPSTAR, the cost of user terminals is much cheaper and is mass produced reducing the overall cost of equipment. The IPSTAR satellite also has a bandwidth capacity of over 45gbps which is up to 40x larger than some other satellite providers. With a higher bandwidth capacity, the cost of over all bandwidth becomes cheaper to supply to the end user.
Do I need to leave my modem on at all times?
No your modem can be turned off and on as required. Once it boots you may need to allow 10 minutes for the modem to log in to the satellite and connect to the internet.
How big is the satellite dish?
The satellite dish is traditionally an 84cm dish for populated areas. For more information please visit Satellite Coverage
Is there any satellite plans with unlimited download?
